Punch-drunk

“I’m against the RH bill because I have many siblings”

‘Yun lang.

Ani rin ng Pambansang Kamao:

“In the first place, the Lord said: ‘Go to the world and multiply’ and not ‘go to the world and have two kids’,” he said.

He said couples should undergo orientation on how to plan a family that could entail abstinence to limit the number of children.

“We sometimes need to make sacrifices like: ‘Darling, not tonight because you’re fertile so we sacrifice in the meantime’,” Pacquiao said, eliciting laughter from journalists.

“You guys must also learn to sacrifice, abstain. But hey, the girls sometimes are the ones making advances,” he said.

Here are some telling points:

  • Given that you, Cong. Pacquiao, grew up with a lot of brothers and sisters, do you think you could’ve got yourself a better education and enriched your mind if there were not too many other mouths for Mommy Dionisia to feed?
  • Guys like us have to learn to sacrifice, yeah, but can you explain Krista Ranillo?  How about the other women you are reported to be seen in the company of behind Jinkee’s back?
  • With the millions (in US dollars yet) that you earn as a purse each fight, it might help to put that fabulous wealth into good use, like subsidizing inputs for our rice farmers to be more productive, or setting up industries that will lessen Filipinos’ dependence on OFW remittances.

Never been much of a boxing fan myself, but I doubt if Manny Pacquiao can spark a renaissance of interest in that sport (which is seriously taking a beating profit- and publicity-wise from the UFC and even the WWE).  He needs to find that specific “eye of the tiger” moment where he can leap into mainstream sport consciousness just like Ali and Mike Tyson before him.

They both did it by sticking to their principles – whether it was Ali’s opposition to Vietnam War-era conscription or Tyson’s just being “the baddest man on the planet”.

God bless us, talaga, if Manny eyes for the presidency.

Maybe it’s high time for me to seriously consider Buddhism.
